Sandstar | | ThunderClan |
tom | | 39 moons | | leader |
sandstar is a handsome kitty, there's really no arguing with that. he has just the right build and pelt texture to be appealing to all sorts of characters. he isn't small and scrawny, but nor is he large and bulky. he's a fair fight against any cat in almost any situation, give or take a couple of examples.
at birth he was given his name for his pelt color, a mixture of ginger and cream and tabby. sure he could have been named sun- or fire-, and they'd certainly been suggested, but in the end sandkit had been decided. his eyes are a rather pretty color, a mixture of green and yellow that really does change depending on the lighting. but then, isn't that always the way it is?

intelligent, calm, driven
one of his greatest assets is his intelligence. sandstar can look at a problem, view it from all angles, and come up with a solution quicker than you can say 'foxdung'.
he isn't the kind of cat to get worked up. that isn't to say he doesn't care; in fact, he cares a great deal. he just doesn't get loud. even in downtime when he's spending time with his family he's more content to watch theit antics and shenanigans than participate.
his entire life, sandstar has striven to become leader. and now that he's here, he's almost unsure of what to do with himself. that doesn't stop him from being the best leader he can possibly be though. thunderclan deserves every drop of sweat and blood he has.
controlling, arrogant, reserved
it's either his way or the highway. no ifs ans or buts about it. every little thing needs to have his stamp of approval, and woe be to you who has a different opinion than him! he's right and you're wrong and that's that.
he'd never consider even the notion that he's wrong. and even when he knows he is, he's too prideful to admit it. even if the forest was going to be destroyed and his apology is the only thing to save them all, he'd wait until the last possible second to say those dread words: "i was wrong."
what, you thought i was going to say he wouldn't say it even then? i know it's hard to believe but sandstar does care. he's not exactly forthcoming with his feelings, you know? Very few get a glimpse of the cat underneath the rank. Only those important and special enough to not take advantage of him.

Once upon a time, ThunderClan was peaceful. It was quiet and wondrous and every cat who lived there valued the peace. They knew that as soon as the sun touched the horizon, all hell would break loose. It happened every night, after all, as inevitable as the seasons changing.
What was so inevitable, you may ask? Why, the screaming matches of Quailfeather and Oatfur, of course! No one knew what their problem with each other was, only that they couldn't stand even the sight of one another. Some even thought they'd go to blows and end up killing each other if their Clanmates didn't interfere. Quailfeather's brother had a different fear, however, one that Quailfeather thought was utterly ridiculous.
Turns out, it wasn't so ridiculous after all. It happened on a sunny day. Neither Quailfeather nor Oatfur were schedules for patrols, and both had decided to hunt on their own. Out in the forest they met, and without anyone to stop them, they traded their insults and names until finally Quailfeather snapped and tackled Oatfur.
What happened next... Well, let's just say they relieved some 'tension'.
It wasn't the last time it happened either. Their fights and arguments still happened daily, but not as badly, and every night they snuck out to relieve that 'tension', sometimes more than once. Frankly it was a surprise Quailfeather didn't become pregnant before.
Become pregnant she did though. Quailfeather carried the kits to term and they were quite healthy.
Sandkit was born first and only tom in a litter of three. He was the only one to inherit his father's ginger pelt while his sisters, Dawnkit and Nightkit, both took after their mother's calico pelts.
From the start he wasn't like the other kits. He didn't play or get under paws or ask a bajillion questions. He sat back and watched, eyes always observing and catching everything. Many cats were quite unnerved by him and whispered about how he acted more like a warrior or elder than a kit.
It was clear though how much he cared for his family. His sisters were the ones always running around and getting into trouble, and while he stayed out the way, he was always incredibly amused by their antics. Sandkit never let them get too into trouble though. Whenever he heard them trying to plan an escape from camp, he shut them down by pointing out how dangerous it was for kits outside.
His protectiveness wasn't only about keeping them out of danger. One time Dawnkit and Nightkit were tumbling around and hit a rather cranky elder, who yowled at them to go do bother somebody else, she had more useful things to do than bother with some kits who can't look where they're going.
Dawnkit had started to cry and Sandkit barged his way in front of them, glaring at the elder. With an icy tone that shouldn't have belonged to someone that young, he meowed, "I'd return the sentiment, but I don't hate anyone enough to expose them to your stupid hide." Then he shooed his littermates away, toward the nursery where their mother would calm them with licks and murmurs.
Five moons old was a productive time for him. He got a lifelong rival in one cat and a live long friend in another. Jasperkit was the rival, and Sandkit knew him. How could he not? Jasperkit was the son of the current Clan leader, Bramblestar and proud of it.
It made Sandkit roll his eyes every time he spoke of the older tom. He made the mistake of rebuking the other kit for pestering the medicine cat and saying just because he was the Clan leader's son, he still wasn't above the rules of common decency. The two have had a rivalry ever since.
The other cat was a warrior, named Tawnypelt.
