flameheart | | shadowclan |
tom | | fifty-two moons | | deputy |
decorating the toms massive frame is a long coat of orange tabby fur. falling in straight sheets from his back, sometimes he can look quite disheveled, often times neglecting to clean his pelt thoroughly to rid it of tangles and knots. he is known for showing up to camp with bristles, and pieces of grass sticking out every which way. when he does take the time to clean it, it is as soft and supple as the purest of silk. flameheart's pelt is predominantly a soft orange, which darker tabby markings throughout. his face is defined with a rich orange along his cheek bones, and lines of the same colour decorating his forehead and up onto the top of his head, flowing down the back his neck. the darkest shade of orange can be found streaking from the inner corners of his eyes, down alongside either side of his nose. there is fleeting glimpses of white all over his body, mostly visible on his chest and belly fur. his muzzle, from the base of his pink nose to his chin, is a very light orange, appearing white in the sun. the fur on his legs is slicked over the front of his legs, flowing out from the back. his paws are covered in shorter fur, the same colour as that of his back. the fur on his tail is long and billowing, a slightly lighter orange than that of the rest of his pelt.
perhaps the most handsome feature on the tom is his eyes. round, with a slight angle, they are the finishing touch of his overall appearance. the are a rich gold colour, with dark orange highlighting the outer parts and around his pupils.
passionate | stubborn | strong | understanding | friendly | loyal | blunt | narrow-minded
if you were given one word to describe the flameheart, it would hands down be passionate. no matter what he is talking about, if he is interested in it, his eyes will light up, and his whole demeanour changes. he practically turns into a kit discovering something for the first time. it doesn't matter if he is talking to one of his clan mates, or a cat from another clan, his love for the subject is reflected in everything that he does. that being said, he can also become quite irate, and argumentative if someone makes a snide comment about what he is talking about. this usually ends in him taking a deep breath, saying he respects your opinion, and then walking away under a huge storm cloud.
to go with his passion, he is also incredibly stubborn. once he sets his mind to something, it is nigh impossible to change it. it's probably in your best interest to just let him do his thing, and then approach him about it afterwards. to try and approach him when he is in the middle of something will end in him telling you to back off, or he'll just simply ignore you. he can also be pretty stubborn when it comes to hunting - he has a hard time giving up on a hunt, no matter how far gone it is. in arguments, it can be pretty difficult to get him to see your side of things. this can lead to bad blood between clanmates, and him feeling superior for a short amount of time. he has a hard time backing down from confrontations, and doesn't listen well to reasoning if in such a situation.
flameheart is not just physically strong, but also mentally and emotionally as well. he is very good at keeping his head in tough situations -even if he is incredibly obstinate- and he is not one to let his true emotions show. he has a very long fuse, and can recognize when he is going to lose his temper and will remove himself from others so that they do not become the target of his aggression. in times of emotional distress, he is a rock. he will be a shoulder to cry on, and offer his advice. he doesn't let a lot of things get under his skin, he learned a long time ago that you can't take everything seriously. he very rarely gets overwhelmed by difficult times, it's almost as if he can turn off the switch in his brain that recognizes emotions - particularly those of pain and sorrow.
something that developed as he grew up and began training his first apprentice is that sometimes things happen that can hinder ones ability to perform at their best. he has become an understanding cat, fully aware of the effect that certain events can have on one's self-esteem. while he might be a little grumpy at first if you make a lame excuse, if you were to approach him later and explain yourself, he is the last cat to chastise you for it. he also understands that some days getting out of your nest and going hunting or on a border patrol can seem like the hardest thing in the world.
despite what he looks like, flameheart is a really friendly cat. he has time for everyone and almost always has a smile to give. he will take the time out of his busy schedule to sit down and have a conversation with anyone; whether it be a kit or an elder, he is never too busy to talk. having grown up with a very antisocial sister, and seeing how the clan alienated her for it, he developed the ability to be a lot more friendly. while he still struggles sometimes, you are sure to get an apology from him if he blew you off when you were trying to talk to him.
being born and raised in shadowclan, naturally his loyalty lies with his home clan. his dedication to shadowclan is demonstrated in nearly everything he does, whether it be when he is hunting, battling, or simply hanging around camp. he knows that everything he does for the clan contributes to everyone's well-being. during gatherings, he is civil, as is expected from him, but that is as far as his friendliness goes towards the other clans. he has never had a intimate thought about another cat from a rival clan, nor has he ever considered being friends with one of them. his loyalty lies with shadowclan, and starclan. he has no qualms about sacrificing himself for the one of his fellow warriors, even if it means losing his life.
flameheart does not sugar coat anything. if he thinks you're acting like a whiny kit, he is going to tell you so. if he is having a bad day, he is gonna tell you. he sees no point in dancing around the truth, as he knows first hand how bad lies can hurt. due to this, he can't come off as quite abrasive, but know that his last intention in the world is to hurt, or upset you. unless you're from a separate clan, then he is definitely trying to get under your skin.
perhaps his greatest character flaw is the fact that he is very narrow-minded about many things. he strongly believes that non-clan cats belong far away from the clans, and that if you are born into one clan, that is where you ought to stay. if you have a job to do, do it. he isn't the type of cat to think outside of the box on anything. he goes by what he knows, and what he knows dictates his life and his actions. talking to him about something that he doesn't agree with can really show you just how stubborn he is, and more often than not can lead to an argument. he can't wrap his head around the idea that someone could not, for whatever reason, believe in starclan. to him, starclan is the only sure thing in the world.

flamekit was the only kit to survive out of four birthed to firesong and kestralwhisker. no one knew why he was the only kit to survive; the medicine cat said that it was because he was the strongest out of the four. his parents were devastated that they had three still borns. firesong wrapped her body around her three dead kits, begging them to wake up. kestralwhisker stood in the entrance to the nursery, unable to move, staring at his mate. the lone kit mewled, blind and deaf, completely helpless. the medicine cat tried to console firesong, make her understand that there was nothing she could do for her kits, and that she had one that needed her. firesong, however, was hysterical, yowling and licking her dead kits.
the shaggy orange tabby kitten was shuffled over to a nearby queen with three kits of her own, and soon he was no longer crying. it took several minutes to get firesong calmed down, and the kits moved from the nursery before she would accept her surviving kit. she looked down upon him, tears in her eyes, and brought him to the warmth of her body. "flamekit. his name is flamekit." she whispered softly, not taking her eyes off of him. he nuzzled into her body, and promptly fell asleep wrapping in the loving embrace of his mother.
firesong never truly got over the death of her three kits, but she grew to understand that they were needed in starclan more than they were needed in shadowclan. she devoted all of her love to flamekit, the large, bumbling kit with paws far too large for his body, and enough energy to fuel the entire clan. every morning, he'd wake up as soon as he heard the dawn patrol leave, and sit in the entrance to the nursery and watch with admiration as the warriors gathered. he was in awe of the way they carried themselves with confidence, a confidence that he hoped one day he would have. his mother would slip in beside him and wrap her tail around him. "one day, my love. you will be the strongest warrior of them all. i am sure of it." then she would give him a lick on the head and return to her nest.
flamekit, though happy to be with his mom in the nursery, couldn't help feeling lonely. he had no siblings, and he was so confused as to why. there were other kits in the nursery, but they were younger than him, and didn't really want to play with him. he didn't understand why at the time, but he realized as he got older that it was because he seemed unapproachable simply because he was significantly larger than them. his curiosity got the better of him one day, and he approached his mother about why he didn't have any siblings.
"mama, why don't i have any brothers or sisters?" it was the most innocent question a kit could ask, but caused a change in his mother that even at five moons, the kit noticed. her eyes grew dark and sad, and she closed herself off from him. she looked at him, with a sad smile on her face. "sometimes mothers only have one kit, that's all." flamekit looked at her quizzically, flicked his tail, and glanced down at the ground. "oh." he said softly, and left it at that. she gave him a gentle butt on the head and slipped out of the nursery for some fresh air. flamekit sat at the entrance and watched her, feeling odd.
promptly on his sixth moon, flamekit became flamepaw. his mentor was older, a senior warrior with a seriously bad attitude, but a strong moral code. his mentors name was bramblestrike, and he was an imposing specimen. flamepaw always thought he was big, but this warrior made him feel tiny. bramblestrike practically had to lay on the ground to touch noses with his new, trembling apprentice. his large yellow eyes studied his new apprentice, sizing him up, and making flamepaw feel incredibly uncomfortable.
"again!" panting heavily, the apprentice tried to focus on the move he was learning. he had shown great promise with his battle skills, being naturally strong. however, he was clumsy. his paws were too large, and he was horribly uncoordinated. "faster flamepaw." bramblestrike's voice cut through the fatigue plaguing his thoughts and he leapt from the ground with his eyes focused on the target. "better, much better." flamepaw beamed up at bramblestrike, but only received a raised eyebrow in return.
around his ninth moon, he was bounding along after his mentor, trying to keep up with the toms long strides. "did you hear mama's gonna have another kit?" he hollered, out of breath once more. his tail was flicking haphazardly from side to side, and his paws were falling heavier than they should be. however, at his question bramblestrike stopped in his tracks and turned to look at the apprentice. not paying attention, flamepaw ran head long into his legs. "what? what's wrong?" bramblestrike had his head cocked to the side. "how do you know she's only going to have one kit, flamepaw?" his voice was tentative, but flamepaw missed it. "she told me that some mothers only have one kit. she only had me, so she's only going to have one again!" his voice was so sure, that it nearly broke the poor old toms heart.
"sit down, flamepaw." the apprentice sat down, confused as bramblestrike lowered himself to the ground and crossed his paws. "this really isn't my place to say, but you have a right to know." he let out a heavy sigh and looked up to the sky. "when your mother gave birth, she had four kits." flamepaw's eyes widened and he started shaking his head. "no, she only had one. she told me-" "firesong lied to you!" bramblestrike snapped. "you were the only kit to survive. i don't know why she didn't tell you this." flamepaw's eyes widened with horror and sadness, and he rose to his paws, backing away from bramblestrike, shaking his head. "you're lying! mama would never lie to me!" the golden eyed apprentice took off back towards camp, angry at bramblestrike for lying to him.
the last thing flamepaw wanted to do was continue his training. he was so angry with his mentor that he could barely look at him. bramblestrike, sensing this, decided that it was in his best interest to not practice any battle training. instead, they focused on hunting, and learning the territory.
"flamepaw, what would you do if an thunderclan warrior wandered onto our territory and tried to steal our prey?" flamepaw ignored the question, following a fox length behind his mentor trying to put as some distance between them as possible. "answer the question." flamepaw rolled his eyes and stuck out his tongue at him. "i don't know, probably tell them to drop the prey, and leave. if that didn't work, i'd chase them off. or fight them." bramblestrike sighed with annoyance but left the conversation at that.
on flamepaw's tenth moon, he was able to attend his first gathering. a handful of other apprentices joined the shadowclan attendees, and soon they were sitting in the starlit hollow listening to the leaders talk. an thunderclan apprentice and one of den mates were sitting exceptionally close together and talking. this lit an anger in his heart that he had never felt before. he got up from where he was sitting and stomped over towards the two apprentices. "what are you doing mosspaw? she's from thunderclan!" the thunderclan apprentice got embarrassed and shuffled away. mosspaw glared at the orange tom. "it's none of your business." "actually, it is my business. you are from shadowclan, your loyalty should lie with shadowclan, not some thunderclan apprentice!" bramblestrike had, at this point, wandered up and cuffed flamepaw over the ears for interrupting the gathering. it was at this gathering that he leader and bramblestrike noted his level of devotion and loyalty to shadowclan.
when his twelve moon rolled around, he was more than ready to become a warrior. with his head held high, and his stature becoming more and more impressive, he proudly received his warrior name of flameheart. his mother with her swollen belly sat beside his father and they both looked upon him with pride. flameheart positively beamed as he sat his vigil.
his first few moons as a warrior shaped up to be far less exciting than he had hoped they would be. the only exciting thing to happen was his mother giving birth to her kits. flameheart caught wind of the news that she had successfully given birth, and he was excited to meet his new brother or sister. after dropping his kill onto the pile, the large warrior bounded over to the nursery and stuck his head in only to be greeted to the sounds of his mother wailing. horrible memories locked deep within his memory came flooding back and he suddenly found it hard to breathe. he excused himself from the nursery and sat outside the entrance waiting for something to happen. he had lost track of time by the time the medicine cat came out with a kit dangling from the jaws. horrified, flameheart ducked into the nursery and approached his mother. she looked at him with sad eyes, and shook her head. confused, he looked to his father who looked just as sad.
"come son, we need to talk." flameheart gave his mother a lick on the cheek, and noticed a small ball of orange fur pressed against her body. he followed his father out of the den and they trudged deep into the territory. "flameheart, your mother a lost kit." his father's voice was tired, and he wouldn't look his son in the eyes. flameheart's mouth was open in horror. "this isn't the first kit she has lost.. you weren't the only kit of your litter, but you were the only one to survive." it was as if someone had ripped his world apart at the seams. everything that bramblestrike had told him had been true. he stared at his father, unable to speak for several moments.
"why would you lie to me? why wouldn't you just tell me the truth?" his father just shook his head and hung it in shame. flameheart felt sick to his stomach, and left his father sitting by himself in the seclusion of the territory. he made a vow that day that he would never lie. he couldn't remember every hurting this much before.
he distracted himself by showing up promptly for all patrols, and put his heart and soul into every one of them. he was a strong warrior, and his work ethic was admirable. this was noted by both the leader and the other warriors and on his twenty-four moon, he received his first apprentice. his apprentice was a lithe she-cat with bright green eyes. her name was pebblepaw, and she turned out to be a challenge. they had completely different personalities, but he soon found out that she was just as stubborn as he was. they butted heads more than once, but she also taught him how to be a better warrior. on her eleventh moon, her mother passed away. pebblepaw was distraught, and refused to get out of her nest or do anything for that matter.
at the start, flameheart was angry with her. he had been able to continue on with his duties when he found out both of his parents had lied to him, and that copperkit was the only one to survive. he didn't understand why she couldn't. so he took her aside one day and talked with her about it. she explained to him that her mother was her best friend, and that she was struggling with learning how to adjust to life without her. at hearing that, flameheart took a step back and really considered what she had said. he came to realize that just because he was able to handle things well, it didn't mean that everyone could. it only took her a few more days after that to get back into training.
she became a warrior, and flameheart could not have been more proud of her.
flameheart watched from a distance his sister grow up. she was dainty, much like their mother, and her eyes were full of wonder. he wanted to know her, but he hated his parents for what they had done. he knew that by keeping his distance from them that he was hurting them, but he knew it was nothing in comparison to the betrayal he had felt. it wasn't until his sister became a warrior, and then a mother that he was able to put everything behind him. copperfoot gave birth to two beautiful kits, a male and a female, and flameheart was there to greet them as they mewled for their mother.
when it was time for them to become apprentices, he was named mentor to nightpaw, the tom. he had all the wonder of copperfoot but he was fairly big headed and arrogant which rubbed flameheart the wrong way. it was a challenge everyday to try and get the tom-kit to work with him, instead of against him. they argued almost everyday abut something that was miniscule in comparison to the big issues. but they met on common ground when it came to to hunting. nightpaw was a superb hunter, having a small frame and quick paws. he worked hard to improve on his skills, and once he got past the fact that he was being trained by his uncle, the training went by far smoother.
his warrior ceremony was shared with his sister, and flameheart sat with his parents, and his sister, proud of the accomplishments that his sisters children had accomplished. night-throat and cloudstreak became shadowclans newest warriors, who had a huge support system behind them.
it took some time for the relationship with his parents to become fully mended, but now his relationships with them are stronger than ever.
